The purest water, green meadows, the best milk, delicious meats and tender vegetables are not a given, but the result of the work of our farmers.

What is the value of our nourishment?

Our farmers make a significant contribution to the uniqueness of Salzburg. The production of high quality, nutritious foodstuffs goes hand in hand with the preservation of our recreational space for natives and tourists. It is therefore not possible to make a distinction between the work of the farmer as a “landscape architect” and a “food producer”. Through an environmentally sound and sustainable mode of production not only are food production and forestry management maintained and sustained in their variety but also the meadows, forests, pastures and fields. Farmers can only achieve these goals as long as they receive a commensurate return on their investments. Salzburg’s foodstuffs are of the highest quality and are competitive in terms of price.

Animal and environmental protection also play a role here: the high-quality potatoes (“Eachtling”) from Lungau are not transported throughout Europe for washing and packing. And there is no need to transport animals over thousands of kilometers when they originate locally.

So you have to ask yourself when you take a product from the store shelf: are we concerned about what we are ingesting with that piece of meat or the supposedly fresh vegetables? In each case the answer should be: No—because I know where it comes from!
